Canibus started rhyming in the early 1990s . In 1992, Canibus under the name of Canibus Sativa formed a duo called T.H.E.M. (The Heralds of Extreme Metaphors) with an Atlanta rapper Webb who is now called C.I . In 1996, T.H.E.M. group has split due to various reasons and Canibus teamed with businessman Charles Suitt.
Canibus’ debut album Can-I-Bus was launched on September 8, 1998. The song “Second Round K.O.” which was produced by Wyclef Jean with the video featuring Wyclef and a cameo appearance by one of the legendary boxers Mike Tyson which was an instant success. Even after being certified Gold, critics still panned the album, criticizing both Canibus’s subject and Wyclef’s beats stating that they were considered inferior to both “Second Round K.O.” and the artists’ previous collaborations.
As Wyclef produced the majority of the tracks on Can-I-Bus, Canibus blamed him for the general criticism with Can-I-Bus and cut ties with him. Canibus did not leave it at there and he went as far as to diss Wyclef. One of the most noticable insults done by Canibus was on the title track of his second album where one of lyrics included are “You mad at the last album? I apologize for it .Yo, I can’t call it, m**********g Wyclef spoiled it!”. His second album 2000 B.C. was also released to mixed feelings and reviews which was not a huge success and stated that Canibus has not focused on variety of topics and a very lacklustre production.
